Hello, my name is Jim Ragan (Coach Jim). I have coached college golf at 5 different colleges starting in 1994: The University of Texas, Vanderbilt, University of Oklahoma, UC San Diego and Cal State Monterey Bay. Prior to coaching college golf I learned to teach golf from some of the most legendary instructors of all time as a Golf Digest School Instructor. I continued my quest to become the best golf coach possible by becoming the most credentialed TPI (Titleist Performance Institute/golf Fitness) college coach in the country. The mental game has constantly been an area I have focussed on as well, starting with my first mentor Dr. Bob Rotella (considered top be the god-father of golf physiology) and continuing through practice experience and clinical education all in order to better understand the link between the mind and good golf.
I apply this cumulation of experience most effectively in a place very few golf instructors every go to access the students they are teaching:
THE GOLF COURSE
My profession as a college golf coach has allowed me to see first hand what the necessities are to shoot low scores in competition. For the last 30 years, I have paid close attention to the details the best junior and college golfers have in common while competing.
This cumulation of experience allows me the opportunity to provide clarity for my clients in a way they most likely have not experienced in their golf journey.
There are about 20, or so, things a player needs to do well to play consistently good competitive golf. The golf swing/mechanics is normally the focal point. It important for sure but there are many different elements that are needed for a player to reach their full potential as a competitive player.
My goal is to identify, explain and teach my clients how to do things correctly.
